Abstract

This seminar provides a space where theory and classroom practice meet. It brings together one researcher and one practitioner, each offering a different but complementary perspective, and encourages active participation from the audience.

The seminar focuses on three themes:

1. English-Medium Teaching
   Researcher: rationale for conducting lessons mainly in English and practical tips.
   Practitioner: classroom examples, challenges, and issues (including study meetings in English).
2. Grammar Instruction
   Focus on the Presentation–Practice–Production (PPP) approach and how it can be revised to better develop students’ communication skills in Japanese EFL classrooms.
3. Research and Practice
   Presentation of research on Willingness to Communicate (WTC) and application of findings to real teaching situations.

Each theme follows the same structure:

• 15–25 minutes: researcher’s overview
• 15 minutes: practitioner’s classroom talk
• 15 minutes: joint discussion with the audience

This interactive format makes the seminar more than a set of separate presentations. It creates a space where research informs practice, practice challenges theory, and new ideas grow through dialogue. By combining academic, practical, and participant perspectives, the seminar explores how connecting theory and practice can lead to more effective English language education in Japan.
